Convienient movie screenings.

Well, I saw "An Inconvienient Truth" today, on the occasion that it was being screened, with free admission, at the University. :-)

I'll say this, though I was aware of everything that was being relayed on-screen (and quite a bit more besides), I'd never before sat down for two hours, related and scrutinized quite so many points of data to each other at once. To be sure, the scientific data related in the film was a bit raw and had a goodly share of holes (if judged by my standards) but it is clearly a film for normal, non-scientifically inclined people, so a bit of slack is warranted.

Not coincidentally, the friendly neighbourhood cranks from the Lyndon LaRouche party took the occasion of the screening to paper half the desks in the building with their half-baked propaganda. To give you a hint: the paper they "left around" accused Al Gore of masterminding a plot to suppress the "real truth" about CO2 emissions while he was Vice-President of the United States. Apparently the entire membership of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (of lord only knows how many scientists, doctors, and engineers from how many countries) is propagating the conspiracy using their incredible hold over the global media. I was more than half expecting the authour to begin referrencing the "Protocols of the Wise Men of Zion", but apparently she was feeling a bit too subtle for that. ::rolls eyes::

LaRouche serves an important function for me. If I find I agree with them, I re-evaluate immediately.

I still haven't figured out what they're even doing here! The first time I encountered them was before the Bush-Gore election. It was a little odd even then, considering that they were campaigning in the wrong country. For some reason, years later, they're still here (in a city that is more than 70% Francophone mind you) plugging away on their agenda...

...And still seemingly haven't grasped the fact that they're on the wrong side of an international border. Maybe they think that they're in New Hampshire? ^_^
